Poet Bernard M Jackson's Review of 'Still Waters' I have reviewed the works of hundreds of poets in my time and my usual approach is to browse through them, settling like some itinerant butterfly on the pages that attract me but leaving my appraisal as a later necessity. What a pleasure it is then, when such a lovely collection as this, comes winging my way – a collection that finds me comfortably ensconced in my favourite armchair, reading and enjoying the writer’s little flights of fancy, anecdotes, dreams and reminiscences in one complete sitting. Yes, and returning to the said book for extra helpings of the same. Her poems are ever formulated with the easeful precision of a dedicated wordsmith. In this book you will find descriptive quality, homespun affection, important world issues and a strong underplay of puckish humour and one of her most delightful poems, ‘Seagulls’- oh how I wish I could have been its author! You will not be disappointed with this 56 page collection if you are a lover of lyrical poetry.
Poet June White's Review of 'Steps' No well equipped bookcase should be without a copy of ‘STEPS’ which is a unique and fascinating correlation of historic fact and lyrical poetry that, not only communicates with clarity of expression, but does so beautifully, further endorsing my long-standing admiration of the special diverse talent of its author, Joy Saunders. From the introductory lines of ‘TIME’ to the culminating poem ‘CROSSED PATHS’, ‘STEPS’ presents a rare volume of ‘food for thought’ and I thoroughly recommend it as a book to enjoy and treasure. |
